LEAD Program
Formerly known as JUCO
LEAD stands for Leadership, Exploration, Adventure and Development.
For our oldest teenagers, these final summers come at an important time. High school graduation, college and first jobs are right around the corner. We want Woodmont to help prepare them for what comes next without rushing them to grow up.
LEAD gives them the best of both: more responsibility, real leadership experience and skills for the future, while still getting to be a teenager and having fun at camp.
LEAD offers two distinct experiences for rising 11th and 12th graders. The idea is to give them something new to look forward to each summer, with each year building on the one before it. They’ll also have their own dedicated cabins.
LIT | Leaders-in-Training
Rising 11th graders
- Work together to learn how to execute an evening program for the entire camp
- Have a dedicated daily LIT activity period
- Take on responsibilities that help them contribute to the camp community, including assisting with the dining hall and bathhouses
- Have opportunities to assist counselors in cabins or activities when needed
- Participate in an off-camp LIT excursion, which could include hiking, caving, visiting a swimming hole or another outdoor experience
- Enjoy an off-camp LEAD break afternoon, such as heading out for pizza and ice cream
- Earn volunteer hours and participate in leadership development that can be included on high school and college resumes
CIT | Counselors-in-Training
Rising 12th graders
- Work together to create, develop and execute an evening program for the entire camp
- Have a dedicated daily CIT activity period
- Assist in the kitchen and go behind-the-scenes to learn more about what it takes to run camp
- Gain supervised, hands-on experience assisting in cabins while counselors take scheduled time off
- Participate in an off-camp CIT excursion, which could include rappelling, hiking, a swimming hole, canoeing or another outdoor experience
- Enjoy an off-camp LEAD break afternoon, such as heading out for pizza and ice cream
- Earn volunteer hours and participate in leadership development that can strengthen high school, college and future job resumes
- Have the potential to explore internship opportunities when the right fit is available
Because LEAD comes with greater responsibility, teenagers must apply and be selected to participate.
