New Maintenance Supervisor Hired!
Durward Hass, and his wife Erin, recently joined Camp Woodmont and we’re beyond thrilled to have them on board! Durward will handle year-round camp maintenance and landscaping, while Erin will work in the kitchen during the summer. This husband and wife team worked together in summer camps in Missouri and Georgia. Durward realized his passion for working with children at Camp Heritage, MO, as a camp counselor and decided to try his hand at teaching. He received his BS in Mathematics Education and Physical Education in 1993, and taught math and PE in various schools and academies. Most recently, Durward served as Assistant Dean of Boys, Math Instructor, Boys Basketball Coach, and Lady’s Volleyball Coach at Georgia Cumberland Academy in Calhoun, GA. However, working and living at a summer camp with his wife and children has always been his dream.
In September, he and Erin moved to Camp Woodmont and resides in the B’s Nest with their three children; Woody (15), DW (13) and Stacie (12). You will see some of Durward’s handy work around camp! Look for updated benches, tables, storage units, and fire pits. He’s also remodeling part of the old horse stables into a chicken coop for the campers to enjoy. Fun facts: He loves to juggle and was a member of the Sweetfeat Jugglers. He was a boat driver and water ski instructor while working at Camp Heritage and performed a handstand, on a chair, on a saucer, behind the boat for weekly ski shows. He can also play a great round of Disc golf and enjoys playing the guitar!
